The Old Laundry doesn’t yet exist, or at least not as we’d like it to. These pages are intended to illustrate the potential of the Old Laundry building at 33 Marlborough Road in Roath, Cardiff.
The current plan for this historic Cardiff landmark is to destroy it. The site will then be occupied by yet another supermarket, or more likely a three story care home. Roath needs no more supermarkets and a new one would only damage local shops and businesses. While we obviously don’t object to care homes in principle we know that destroying the Old Laundry to accommodate a building completely out of keeping with the local area, and that would contribute little to the local and greater Cardiff community, is misguided at best.

This beautiful piece of Cardiff history must be restored and must continue to serve the community in which it is situated. Our eventual aim is to have the building provide a valuable service to the local community. The building would be a perfect cultural hub providing space for art, education, health and well-being and any other facilities that could enhance Roath and Cardiff as a whole.
We need as much help as we can get, and as much feedback as we can get to ensure as wide an audience as possible can benefit from this historic building.

Who owns it now?
Hi Pete,
The site is currently privately owned. As we understand it the owner lives in South Wales, we hope to have some contact with the owner or his representatives sooner. While it is easy for anyone to find ownership details through the land registry, I think it would be improper of us to start releasing their details on this blog.

dont ruin the old laundry!
I was born and grew up within a stones throw of this building. Would be sad to see it go and for sure it would be fantastic to restore the building and use for the betterment of the local and wider community, across a range of potential uses.
I’ve been wondering why you begin the campaign only now, not when Pegasus Homes proposed building on the site, or even when they withdrew in 2007.
Well, the quick answer to that is we didn’t know! But we do now and we’re determined to keep this building alive.
Did you know it was also factory where they made mens suits.
